The Adega Cooperativa de Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo is located at the foot of Serra da Marofa, between the valleys of the Côa and Águeda rivers, adjacent to the Douro river. It was founded in 1956, by 154 members, organizing itself as a cooperative, and currently has around 350 members.
The winery is part of the Beira Interior Demarcated Region, in the sub-region of Castelo Rodrigo, characterized by a continental climate with Mediterranean influence and soils dominated by schist and sandstone.
This region has a long viticultural tradition, dating back to the 12th century, when the Cistercian monks of the Convent of Santa Maria de Aguiar introduced the first viticulture knowledge to the area.
