Quinta da Palmirinha is a small vineyard (approximately 3 hectares) located in the Sousa Valley, municipality of Felgueiras, in the Vinho Verde region of Portugal, known for its pioneering approach to bio-dynamic agriculture. It was restructured in 1994 and replanted with the regional grape varieties, Azal, Loureiro, and Arinto.
Its owner, Fernando Paiva, began working directly with this vineyard in 2000. In the same year, he received training in conventional viticulture, and in 2001, he started attending various courses in Organic and Bio-dynamic Agriculture. It was in this context that he had the privilege of meeting with great specialists in organic and bio-dynamic viticulture, such as Pierre Masson, Daniel Nöel, Daniel Pasquet, and Nicolas Joly.
With the support of João Castella, he learned to apply Bio-dynamic Preparations, which led to him obtaining Demeter Certification in 2007.
Winemaking is done in the Quinta's cellar, with semi-automatic equipment. Fermentations proceed slowly, with temperature control; no enzymes or exogenous yeasts are used. These are very fresh and aromatic wines and, above all, very natural.
